The 14th PSP Symposium for carers and therapists was a great success. Over 80 delegates gathered at the Novotel Hotel, Worsley, Greater Manchester on 17th September to hear the latest on research and care.
This year's event took place under the aegis of Manchester's Hope Hospital, chaired by Dr Jeremy Dick. On the day before, an International Meeting took place for representatives from The PSP Association, PSP France (their CEO, Patrick Delos, and Director Jaennie Couee) and CurePSP (their CEO, Richard Gordon Zyne).
On the day itself, the main sessions comprised:
What is PSP? - Dr Kellet
Molecular Biology of PSP - Dr David Mann
Overview of Research - Dr Anglea Wilson
Lithium Trials and PSP - Dr Huw Morris
Epidemiological Studies - Dr Uma Nath
Neuro Imaging in Parkinsonian Disorders - Dr Alex Gerhard
Visual Disturbance Experienced in PSP - Dr Adam Zermansky
Speech Difficulties in PSP - Shelia Wight
Palliative Care - the benefits of Respite - Dr Nigel Martin
During breaks in proceedings, families, health and welfare professionals and speakers were able to discuss issues raised and also meet and talk with many of The PSP Association staff members, including the Nurse Specialists and Development Officers.
The next PSP Symposium will take place in Cardiff on 16th September 2009.
