PSP and CBD can affect people in different ways. You won't necessarily develop all the symptoms or in the same way.

Our new leaflet, ‘Life with PSP' has lots of tips about ways to manage PSP and make the most of everyday.

Looking after yourself

Ensuring you have good food, drink and exercise will help to maintain your energy, strength and well being.

bob keeler mobility scooter.jpgAlthough there is no evidence that particular foods have a role in treating PSP or CBD, a healthy diet including plenty of fruit and water helps to keep the body strong (and is good for the bowel too!). A speech and language therapist and dietician can advise on these aspects.

Exercise can help to keep joints supple and maintain muscle tone: it is best to consult a physiotherapist to create an exercise programme that is just right for you.

Adaptations around the home or work can help to make life more manageable - an occupational therapist would be able to advise here.

Your GP can advise and refer you if you are not already linked up with the relevant therapist.

Can I drive?

PSP can affect eyesight and weaken one's ability to judge distance. Anyone diagnosed with PSP must notify the DVLA - they will make an assessment of your ability to continue to drive. It is also important to let your insurance company know. For more information, download our leaflet ‘Getting About'.
