There are currently no easy blood tests or brain scans to diagnose PSP or CBD and the range of possible symptoms can make it hard to pin down these diseases in the early stages. So it can take time to get an accurate diagnosis and there may be other reasons; it might not be PSP.
PSP and CBD can often be misdiagnosed, particularly in the early stages, as related neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease, or as a stroke.
Specialist expertise such as a neurologist, geriatrician or consultant in medicine for the elderly will usually be required. Ask your GP for a referral, and persevere, if need be asking for a second opinion.
Our specialist Care and Support team can also advise any health professionals if you find you are still having problems.
